Psalm 12
1Help, LORD; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.
2They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak.
3The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things:
4Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own: who is lord over us?
5For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the LORD; I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him.
6The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
7Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.
8The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted.
The Lord gave me this word this morning. The godly man is ceasing. They have counted the cost of carrying their cross and found the price too high. At the end of Paul's second letter to Timothy, he is grieved over the fact that many forsook him when he was put in jail and in need of them. (2 Timothy 4:16). He speaks of one called Demas:
for Demas left me, having loved this present world, and went to Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia. (2 Timothy 4:10).
We here in America are living in an age where there is increasing ungodliness and this requires even more diligence from God’s own people. It calls for you to take a stand for what is right when it is unpopular. It requires you to question those things that are acceptable by many, even your closest friends and fellow believers, that may not be founded on the word of God. Some of them may have once even been consider Godly men but as Psalm 12:1 says “..the godly man ceaseth..” It’s tragic when these things happen but we see it all around us. It’s as though they have thrown in the towel and have decided the price to obey is too high and they just cease to obey and go their own way. It goes on to say “..the faithful fail from among the children of men.” The faithful are the believers here. So the godly are ceasing to be godly and the faithful are failing among the (world) children of men.
It’s time for believers to stand in the face of adversity and not back down setting your face as a flint like the prophets of old. The definition of flint is a very hard unyielding stone. As the saying goes; when the going gets tough the tough must get tougher. God’s people are being challenged in every arena by the enemy that wages war against our souls spiritually, politically, socially and economically. The bible calls it an onslaught or a flood. “But when the enemy comes in like a flood the Lord raises a standard against him.”-(Isaiah 59:19) The standard is the word of God, righteousness and holiness. The enemy can never prevail over the written word of God.
It’s time that we like the Bereans study to show ourselves approved unto God, workman that need not to be ashamed when we appear one day before the throne of God. We must give an account either in this life or the life to come. Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. (Galations 6:7) The bible clearly says what happens when men mock God’s word: 2 Chronicles 36:16: “But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.” But we as believers are not to be those who fight against God and neither should we give into the enemy.
1 Chronicles 28:9
And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.
