Dear Friend,
We are living at a time when fear is gripping the hearts of many. It has been rightly stated that sudden calamity will expose the quality of the foundation we have been building upon.
In Isaiah 33:14–17, the prophet Isaiah describes three types of responses that arose in people's hearts when overwhelming adversity came their way. People who were willfully sinning and others who were living lives of only pretended devotion to God were suddenly gripped with fear. There was no faith in their hearts and all that their lips could utter were hopeless statements about the situation― "Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire?"
In contrast to this was the person who had chosen to trust God for the power to live the kind of day-to-day life that truly brought honor to His name. There were no giant slayers or lion killers here, just ordinary people who walked right, spoke truthfully, shunned greed and guarded what they heard and saw. They had an honest reverence for the Word and the will of God. Through Isaiah, The Lord gave them this promise: "These are the ones who will dwell on high. The rocks of the mountains will be their fortress of safety. Food will be supplied to them, and they will have water in abundance. Your eyes will see the king in all His splendor, and you will see a land that stretches into the distance" (Isaiah 33:16-17, NLT).
Take courage. The Lord Jesus will see all of us through to the other side.
