Thanks for posting this, Rebecca ! Recently, I heard of a grandmother who was charged because of handing out tracts. It is mind boggling that this is happening in the U.S. and Canada. I noticed that one of the movies featured a pastor named Tristan Emmanuel. I thought this was interesting, since I went to school with him. I didn't know him well, though.
It was heart wrenching to learn about the girl whose mic was cut off, when she began talking about Jesus at her grad. I'm very thankful, since I've twice had a chance to be a speaker at a grad (most recently this past Saturday), and both times was allowed to share a fair amount about Christ. However, I know this would not be the case with many schools.
When I shared this past Saturday, I talked about how global warming is a 'potential concern' but that there were more significant ways in which the grads could make an impact on the world they live in, in comparison to dealing with global warming. I quoted from the lyrics of a song called, 'Future Generations' by the group 4Him. It goes, "We can save the planet thinking we will somehow survive, but Father time is calling us to save somebody's life. " (Father time is used in this song as a juxtaposition to the Mother Earth metaphor associated with saving the planet).
As far as saving someone's life, I shared the example of Jim Cymbala, who met David Ruffin in church one Sunday and at first thought that he was just a street bum who wanted money. But then David put his finger in Pastor Cymbalas face and told him, "I don't want your money, I want this Jesus you were talking about." Then pastor Cymbala's heart was melted, so much so that God enabled him to sense David's smell of urine and filth as, "The most beautiful perfume that I had ever smelled in my life".
Please pray that God will use these words to touch people's lives, and for His glory.
In Jesus, John
