I just picked up two new additions for my collection... two big fat old biographies: Arthur T. Pierson's "George Muller of Bristol" and Dr. Howard Taylor's two volume work on Hudson Taylor, his life and ministry. These men were living testimonies for the Lord Jesus Christ! Can't wait to crack them open.

I'am reading a great book. "Words to winners of souls", Bonar.
The first 3 chapters have been great. I have read chapter 1 3 times and chapter 2 twice.

I've just finished a good book that greatly stirred up my faith, called "Evidence Not Seen"by Darlene Deibler Rose. It's about a young newlywed missionary who survived 4years in a notorious Japanese prison in the jungles of New Guinea. There she looses her all including her husband, faces the executioner's sword but is spared. And through it all rejoices in the Lord Jesus. The book left me weeping tears.Tears of sorrow for what they endured, but also tears of joy at the testimony of what God did for,and through her as she was obediant, even unto death.A great book especially for us women. (Excerpts from the book" Evidence not Seen") Just some quotes from Darlene as she was spending time in solitary. This is for those who won't have time to read the book! "When thou saidst,Seek ye my face;my heart said unto thee,Thy face,Lord, will I seek." I repeated these verses aloud.I knew that without God,without the consciousness of his presence in every troubled hour,I could never have made it."Lord, don't ever leave me or forsake me.Your wonderful presence has made this cell a place of beauty..." Quite suddenly,I felt enveloped in a spiritual vaccum."Lord where have you gone? What have I said or done to grieve you?Why have you withdrawn your presence from me?"In panic I jumped to my feet,my heart frantically searching for a hidden sin,for a carless thought, for any reason why my Lord would withdraw his presece from me.My prayers,my expressions of worship seemed to go no higher than the ceiling.I prayed for forgiveness for the Holy Spirit to search my heart. I sank to the floor and quietly and purposefully began to search the scriptures hidden in my heart."Thy word have I hidden in my heart that I might not sin against thee"I was aware that if I regarded iniquity in my heart,He would not hear me.I knew of no unconfessed sin.Did not 1John3:21 state that if our hearts do not condemn us,then we have confidence toward God?My heart did not condemn me,and my confidence was in the person of my Lord,Who never lies, who is faithful to his Word.I quoted Num.23:19"God is not man that he should lie, neither the son of man that He should repent.." "Lord,I do walk by faith and not by sight.I do not need to Feel You near, because your word says You will never leave me nor forsake me."The words of Heb.11:1 welled up,unbeckoned to fill my mind:"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen."Evidence not seen -that was what I put my trust in-not in feelings, or moments of ecstacy, but in the unchanging person of Jesus Christ.Suddenly I realized I was singing. When darkness veils his lovely face,I rest on his unchanging grace; In every high and stormy gale,My anchor holds within the veil. On Christ the solid rock Istand; All other ground is sinking sand, allother ground is sinking sand.
In a measure I felt I understood what Job meant when he declared,"Though he slay me yet will I trust Him."(Job 13:15)It was faith stripped of feelings, faith without trappings......
