I believe this is a very important topic of discussion: What are the differences between the days of the Old Testament/Covenant and the New Testament/Covenant?
What has changed? What is the same? Post your responses here.

I've always been under the impression that in the NC we have the Spirit of God dwelling in us and that in the OC the Spirit came upon men from time to time, but didn't continually stay with them.

In the New Testament the Spirit of God is poured out upon a multitude of people rather than on only a few, to do the work of the Lord, as in the Old Testament. A foreshadow of this being when Moses said:
"And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the LORD's people were prophets, and that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!" (Numbers 11:29)
And fulfillment being Pentecost:
"But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy." (Acts 2:17-18)

In the New Covenant, Jesus Christ is our great high priest, our sacrifice, our mediator; putting an end to the old Levitical ordinances and fulfilling them in Himself. No longer must only one man enter through the veil only once a year, but now through Jesus Christ we all have access in through that veil whereby we may come boldly before the throne of grace for help in our time of need. Praise God! That is an indescribably better promise! (Hebrews 4:15-16)

One of the beautiful differences is, the veil is rent and we have access into the very presence of God whenever want not just once a year. We have a more personal and better way as Hebrews teaches. We can come with boldness into his presence. That's not without reverence, just confidence he hears us in our time of need.

That's funny, I didn't see your message Eli before I shared. We are on the same track, same Holy Ghost.

A While back the revealed some neat things to my husband Tim about the covenants. It was life changing for him. Permit me to share. I think it will be a blessing to all of you. In Jeremiah 31:31-34 The whole thing but I'll type out v.34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his brother saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Link this with Hebrews 8:7-13 Especially Hebrews 9:11-15 the most important part, the blood. Jesus is our high priest. part'l v.12 by his own blood he entered in once in the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. Hallelujah!!! The blood of Christ in Hebrews 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? v. 15 too about the new testament. Hebrews 10:16-22 v.22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. (The water of the Word of God). To sum it up: OLD COVENANT: In the time of Moses, a blood sacrifice of an animal without blemish, was required to atone for sin. NEW COVENANT: JESUS who was without sin, became the blood sacrifice for us, when we repent of our sins and accept what Jesus did on the cross for us, to the saving of our souls.

It is truly interesting also, that the types of the old covenant are so revealing, if we rightly take them all and intertwine them; in doing this we gather a very accurate portrayal of the depths of the work that Jesus has done for us on the tree.
Just recently I was pondering the mechanics of the atonement. How exactly can Jesus take the punishment that we deserve, bearing our very sin and iniquity, and yet still have died for all the world? Most say this is only possible if limited atonement were true, but a comment during a discussion with a dear brother opened up a very interesting line of reasoning. I have noticed that even little comments or phrases can be used of the Holy Spirit to quicken mighty revelation to the open hearted believer.
Anyhow, I realized that the type of the leaning upon the animal and allowing it to bear our full weight tranfers the identity of the person to the animal - in the metaphysical realm of God's perspective that is. This was the command to Aaron and his sons. Also the scapegoat is another revealing type. When the animal bore the full weight of the person leaning on it, their sin was imputed to the animal which directly thereafter was sent out into the wilderness to wander and die, forsaken of God and man - also another animal of the same office was taken and slaughtered.
This type is amazing when we rightly apply it to the doctrinal implications of Jesus taking our actual punishment for our actual sin. How is this reconciled with God loving all the world, and how can all be saved if that were true?
When we repent and believe we are, in effect, leaning on the sacrificial lamb with all of our wieght, thereby transferring our identity to the Son of God. The chastisement that brought us peace was upon Him, and all can be saved because all can lean upon Him and be partakers of the great exchange - our life for His. Then we walk in newness of life, not the oldness of the letter, in the power of His resurrection because it is no longer we that live, but we are raised with Christ to resurrection life.
Anyhow, to avoid rambling on, that is a type, and another difference that almost made my Jaw drop.

It seems that the relationship in the OT between God and His people was a distant one, and the relationship between His children in the NT is one of closeness and intimacy. Whereby we can cry Abba Father! Also the relationship of us believers with one another is of similtude to that if Jesus and the Father. Like John 17. For me I throughly love to meet and pray with and fellowship with my brothers and sisters from all walks of life and all parts of the world.

Yeah, John 17 is considered Jesus' high priestly prayer. It really is wonderful.
Miss you brother!
