Are Christians still under the Law?
By Danny Lirette
Galatians 4:20-23 "I desire to be present with you now, and to change my vo...ice; for I stand in doubt of you. Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law? For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman. But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise."
The entirety of this chapter is speaking of the bondmaid (Law) which is the flesh and the freewoman (Faith) which is the promise of God to those who repent and believe.
We're free form the law of sin and death and are also free from being under the law.
To confirm this:
Galatians 5:18 "But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law."
If one is to follow the law, one is under the law he follows and only one thing results from following the Law:
Galatians 5:19-21 "Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God."
If one removes himself from seeking to follow and be under the law (torah) and walk in the Spirit, there is but one result to such a wonderful faith-walk:
Galatians 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."
